When travelling with young kids, I think it is important to choose a hotel which is safe, clean and reliable. With these
in mind and the fact that they provide free shuttle service to their sister hotels, that we choose the Golden Sands Resort, thus saving us one expensive taxi fare. It might be a different story though when both Iqah and Nana are much older and we dare to be more adventurous.
Early next morning after our breakfast of Roti Canai, we packed our bag and waited at the lobby for the free shuttle to Batu Feringghi. The bus drove us along the route of Gurney Drive and so, we did saw the famous stretch and malls. And it was while inside the bus did ayah realized that we had left his jeans behind, hanged in the wardrobe. The staffs from both hotels were very kind and helpful to locate the jeans and arrange for delivery to us – another plus point! We like
Our planned itinerary was supposed to include visiting the Butterfly Park. But the swimming pool and the sea beckon on the girls and ayah-nye, so much that we decided to skip it (can’t be any much different from the one we went in Sentosa right?) Took bus no. 101 to the Toy Museum where both Iqah and Nana took photos imitating the figurines.
The collections are extensive, including toys from fast-food giveaways and cinema promo. I thought the horror section were quite scary and tried to keep both girls away. But like ayah-nye, they too put their faces up close to the showcase for a clearer look. And went abuzz, calling out the names of characters they recognized.
Before that, just across the museum, we had a satisfyingly authentic Nasi Padang for lunch, which I thought were a rare find here in Penang.
Back at the hotel, we quickly changed to our swimming gear. Ayah brought the girls out to sea on a Jet Ski and they enjoyed it. Next time, maybe they can try the parasailing and perhaps I can try to coax ayah-nye for that romantic horse ride on the beach. I think not. He said its a waste of $$
We love the swimming area. There is a slide area for the children. A deep pool dominated by the ang mohs and the middle eastern tourists. But best of all is the children pool, which is connected to another deep pool – allowing us to enjoy our swimming without having to stay on the shallow water with the girls. But at the same time able to keep a close eye, and swim to them should they call us. Here we remained, until its time to close the pool.

Then to the never-ending stretch of the pasar malam, where we also had our dinner; kebab, rojak sotong and sate. One thing we noticed here, their sate only comes in chicken meat. Even their curry was either chicken, fish or squid. I don’t remember seeing any mutton or beef curry. Hmmmm, Penangnites really do love their chicken. So did Nana.
